An AC is a closed, hermetically sealed loop and NEVER consumes gas. If your AC is low on refrigerant (R410a/R22), it means there is a physical copper leak. Signs of low gas include warm air blowing from vents, frozen evaporator coils (ice buildup), elevated indoor humidity, and a compressor that constantly runs but never cools the room.
A gas refill or refrigerant recharge is one of the most critical maintenance events in the lifetime of an air conditioning system. Because the cooling loop is fully closed, any reduction in gas pressure indicates a physical breach in the system's copper infrastructure.
In Dubai's intense thermal environment, where temperatures routinely exceed 45°C, running an AC unit that is starved of refrigerant will severely overheat the compressor windings. The compressor relies entirely on the cool return suction gas to chill its internal motor. Without it, the motor will bake its own oil, turning it highly acidic, and eventually destroy the rotor, forcing an expensive complete replacement.
How do you know if your AC is actually low on gas rather than just suffering from a dirty filter? Here are the undeniable mechanical symptoms:
Stop paying for temporary gas top-ups. We locate the leak, braze the copper, vacuum the system, and refill by exact factory weight.
Refrigerant exists as a liquid and a gas simultaneously inside the system, absorbing heat from your room and dumping it outside. There are two primary types of refrigerants used in Dubai:
R22 (Freon): Found in older, non-inverter systems built before 2015. It operates at lower pressures but is highly damaging to the ozone layer and is being phased out globally. Recharging R22 has become significantly more expensive due to scarcity.
R410a (Puron): The standard for modern inverter split systems and VRFs. R410a is a synthetic blend that operates at massive pressures (50-60% higher than R22) to increase cooling efficiency. Because it is a blend of two different gases (R32 and R125), R410a must be charged into the system as a liquid. If there is a large leak, the entire remaining charge must be recovered, because the two gases leak at different rates, ruining the chemical ratio.
A fundamental law of HVAC engineering is that simply adding gas to a leaking system without repairing the crack is a temporary fix that will fail again within weeks.
Leaks frequently develop at the brass flare joints connecting the indoor and outdoor units, or at the copper U-bends inside the condenser due to intense compressor vibration. Our technicians use digital halogen leak detectors and micro-bubble solutions to pinpoint the exact fissure.
Once found, we isolate the system and use an oxygen-acetylene torch with high-silver brazing rods to permanently weld the crack shut, ensuring it can withstand the extreme 450+ PSI pressures of R410a gas.
We service all major areas including Mirdif, Deira, Downtown, and JVC. Don't let your compressor burn out from low gas.
Book Online ServiceAfter brazing a leak, the copper pipes are filled with atmospheric air and moisture. If gas is pushed into the system while air is inside, the oxygen and moisture will chemically react with the synthetic POE oil inside the compressor, creating a highly corrosive acid that eats the compressor windings from the inside out.
To prevent this, we connect a high-displacement dual-stage vacuum pump to the service valves. We pull the entire system down to an extreme vacuum (below 500 microns), boiling off all trapped moisture and creating a completely pure, empty void ready for fresh refrigerant.
Charging "by feel" or just watching gauge pressures is a hallmark of amateur technicians. The only factory-approved method for charging an AC system from empty is by weight.
We place our virgin R410a cylinder upside down on an electronic digital scale. We zero the scale and slowly bleed liquid refrigerant into the system until the exact weight (e.g., 1.25 kg) specified on the manufacturer's data plate is reached. This guarantees absolute peak efficiency, perfect superheat/subcooling numbers, and ice-cold airflow.
Never attempt to add refrigerant yourself. Overcharging an R410a system beyond 550 PSI can rupture copper tubing joints or violently blow out the compressor terminal block, causing severe physical injury or total system destruction. Always use a licensed HVAC engineer.

A unique factor affecting air conditioning systems in Dubai coastal areas (like Dubai Marina, JBR, and Palm Jumeirah) is the high-salinity humid sea breeze. This salty air constantly passes over the aluminum fins and copper U-bends of outdoor condenser units.
Over 3 to 5 years, this causes a chemical reaction known as formicary corrosion, where microscopic pinhole leaks develop all over the copper tubing. In these areas, we highly recommend applying a specialized anti-corrosion blue epoxy spray to the coils during installation or deep maintenance to prevent the gas from slowly bleeding out over the summer.
